Best Lunch

Lunch is the one meal I find myself racing through, instead of enjoying.  Even when I am out with friends, I find it sandwiched in between a day of showings or between shopping stops.  Hence, these are my Go Tos when I am in the neighborhood, listed succinctly with my favorite orders.

Hot Chicken and BBQ

Let me start with a huge admission:  Neither of these is high on my list of priorities.  However, my ex-husband can’t live without them.  Needless to say, I’ve tried them all, and a LOT of people won’t leave Nashville until they’ve tried them.   Here are my picks, and the good news is, they each have multiple locations around town:

Prince’s Hot Chicken:  If what you want is hot chicken, this is the OG.

Hattie B’s Hot Chicken:  The chicken is good (and they have regular southern fried if you are wimpy like I am, but please, please, don’t pass up the opportunity to try their amazing collards.

Edleys’ BBQ:  My pick is the Sylvan Park location because their outdoor deck is an amazing place to share an order of BBQ Nachos with friends, but if you want to visit the original, it’s conveniently located in 12 South.

12 South

  1. Burger Up, 2901 12th Ave South.  My go to:  Turkey Burger
  2. Bartaco, 2526 12th Ave South.  My favorite:  Baja Fish, Chili Lime Shrimp, and Sesame Ribeye Tacos on Corn Tortillas
  3. Epice, 2902 12th Ave South.  Closed Mondays.  I always start with the Hummus, and I typically follow with the Falafel

Green Hills

  1. The Green Hills Grille, 2002 Richard Jones Drive.  My go to:  It really is the best Cheeseburger in Nashville.  Add bacon for a real treat.
  2. North Italia, The Mall at Green Hills.  Looking for a quick lunch while shopping?  Enjoy a glass of rose with your Caesar salad and Margherita Pizza.
  3. Restoration Hardware Cafe, The Mall at Green Hills.  Take note:  entry is from the outside, but once you are in, the lunch is a decadent treat.
  4. Etc., 3790 Bedford Ave.  The revolving menu changes too frequently for me to keep up, but this hidden gem is a real treat.  It’s all good!

Brentwood

  1. Mere Bulles, 5201 Maryland Way.  This is where the business men meet for lunch, but if you happen to be in the area, the salads and crab cakes are not to be missed.
  2. Puffy Muffin, 229 Franklin Road, Hill Center Brentwood.  If you don’t stop for lunch, come get an iced sugar cookie!
  3. Del Frisco’s Grille, 207 Franklin Road, Hill Center Brentwood.  I always order the Ahi Tacos, but the shaved steak sandwich is really good, too!
